A press release from MLBFanStrike.com

August 1, 2002 a SUCCESS!

We're calling the August 1st MLB Fan Strike a SUCCESS! Attendance was down at home ballparks by five percent. When you factor in the average road attendance of teams playing away from home that day, attendance was down 18%! To see a table of the stats, click here.

    Some highlights include:

bulletAttendance was down 45% for the Detroit Tigers at Oakland A's game.
bulletThere was a 19% dip in attendance at The Ballpark in Arlington for the Red Sox and Rangers game.
bulletThere was also a drop of 19% in New York, where the Mets and Astros clashed.
bulletRoyals fans showed their disgust, with attendance down 29% for KC's game against Toronto.
bulletAttendance was down 11% in Atlanta where the Braves were going for a sweep of the Brewers. The weather had also been bad the previous two days.
bulletAttendance was down 30% for the Marlins and 24% for Tampa Bay.
bulletThe Pirates drew a crowd that is 18% lower than average for their game against Colorado.

The end isn't here yet. While these stats are promising, fans must continue to make their voices heard. Don't be content until the players and owners have a contract signed that will ensure the long-term health of Major League Baseball.
