Restaurant
History
For over 25 years, Cincinnati's most popular Italian restaurant. Located "Three Blocks from the Beach", we are within walking distance from all downtown hotels as well as the Albert B. Sabin Convention Center. A local landmark, Campanello's is well known in the Tri-state area for it's homemade lasagna and imported pastas.
In 1906, Joseph Campanello came to Cincinnati from Bari, Italy. His home was the building which the restaurant is in today. He ran a small Italian import deli out of the downstairs of the house. In 1922, in this same house, his wife gave birth to Daniel "Danny" Campanello. In the late 1960's, Danny opened a restaurant serving breakfast and lunch to the downtown crowds. In the next few years, as both the downtown and his business grew, he started serving dinner as well, using the same old family recipes that his mother and father brought with them from Italy many decades before.
In 1992 Danny's son Bruce, who had ran his father's restaurant since 1979, took over the family business. Two years earlier, the restaurant gained national fame during the 1990 Reds Championship season. World Series MVP Jose Rijo came in and had his pre-game meal at Campanello's before every home game. And almost every game he pitched a victory. During the World Series, Bruce Campanello sent his pre-game meal (Lasagne, Italian salad, and Cappuccino) via Federal Express to the Red's hotel in Oakland.
And the rest is history..............
